Jumping on the Bike for Cancer Research

The members of The Cancer Research Advocate Bikers (CRAB) are passionate about supporting the work of cancer researchers at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in their own unique way – jumping on their motorcycle!

Since 2005 the dedicated crew of volunteers have come together twice a year to hold rides and events for the whole family to enjoy, all for a cause close to their hearts. This year was no exception, with the ‘Blueys’ as they fondly call themselves, already raising $29,000 for cancer research through the RAH Research Fund. Thank you to this inspiring group of people!

Over the last six years the club has raised an incredible $99,500 by hosting not only the two main motorcycle events, but also countless raffles, functions and flagging at motocross events.
CRAB was founded in 2004 by a Queensland man who lost his mother to cancer and wanted to give back to research to stop the deadly disease from affecting other families like his own.

“He shaped a social club who rode their motorcycles whilst raising money for cancer research. There are now five states across Australia with their own club funding local research,” CRAB Treasurer Heather Kemble said.

“We run two annual rides for all to attend, the Testi-Cool Run in February and the Roll the Dice Run in October. We also do flagging at motocross events across the state to raise further funds.

“All our members have at some time been affected by cancer as we recently lost our Vice President to this ugly disease.

“Whilst we are a motorcycle orientated social club, you don’t need to have a motorcycle to join. Anyone is welcome in the club who shares our passion for finding a cure for cancer.”

If you’re interested in getting involved and having a little fun for an important cause, the next CRAB ride is coming up on Saturday October 29 leaving from the Whitehorse Inn Hotel. For more information please contact CRAB Public Relations Officer Jeff on 0439 154 209.

Thank you to the incredible CRAB team!
